AI belongs in workflows, not chat boxes

The useful AI projects we have shipped look like pipelines with approval steps, not assistants.

A chat box puts the burden on the user to know what to ask. In an operational business, the value is elsewhere: reading unstructured input, classifying it, extracting the fields that matter, and preparing an action for approval.

That is a workflow, not a conversation.

The pattern that works for us:

Pick a decision the business already makes consistently. If humans disagree about the right answer, AI will not fix that.

Extract and score. Give the model a narrow job and attach confidence to the output.

Keep approval. The point is removing the typing, not the judgement. A human confirming a pre-filled record is dramatically faster than a human producing one.

Audit everything. Every decision should be traceable to its input.

Done this way, AI stops being a demo and becomes a step in a process people trust.
